Description and Background: Electricity transformation requires all parts of the electricity system to work together to develop new generation opportunities and integrate storage while increasing amounts of electrification of transportation and heating occur all while maintaining reliability and affordability of the system. This significant shift in the electricity system will require 'all hands on deck', and will need to involve consumers of all types (residential, commercial and industrial) to be successful.
The focus of this session is the role behind-the-meter technologies can play in supporting electricity transformation. From demand response to energy management systems and DERMS to energy efficiency, there are a variety of ways to support consumers to manage their own costs and to contribute to the electricity transformation. Consumer engagement, support and buy-in will be critical to the future success of electricity systems, and demand side management (DSM) is one of the key ways to support and involve customers on this journey.
