Jacob is a partner and Co-Chair of Osler's Energy Group. His practice focuses on commercial aspects of the electricity sector, specializing in procurement, development, finance, construction and M&A matters relating to electricity generation, storage, distribution and transmission assets. Jacob is also active in Osler’s Derivatives practice group, focusing on regulatory matters relating to trading and marketplace activities for commodities and derivatives products. Jacob plays a leading role in the firm’s climate change-related activities and is experienced in various emissions trading and renewable energy credit trading markets and associated regulations and voluntary frameworks. In 2009 Jacob led the Osler team acting for the IESO (formerly the Ontario Power Authority) on the renewable energy Feed-in Tariff Program, developed in connection with the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, 2009 and he currently acts for the IESO on several of its most significant procurements and contracts for electricity resources. Jacob has served as a director of the Canadian Solar Industries Association and regularly acts for owners, lenders, off-takers and other stakeholders on renewable energy projects, battery storage projects and other electricity-sector and energy transition projects across Canada. He is recognized as a leading lawyer in Energy: Power by Chambers Canada, The Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, Best Lawyers in Canada and Who’s Who Legal.
