Description and Background: The transition to a sustainable energy system necessitates a thorough understanding of the environmental impacts associated with emerging clean energy technologies. This presentation will introduce the value of conducting life cycle assessments (LCAs) and the considerations and methodology for conducting LCA studies of key technologies driving the energy transition. The technologies we will address include wind turbines, solar panels, battery energy storage systems (BESS), electrolyzers, and fuel cells.
We will make a compelling case that underscores the importance of such studies in fostering a holistic understanding of the environmental impacts and driving the transition toward a sustainable energy system. Attendees will have the opportunity to provide insight and will participate in audience polls to gauge the diverse opinions among the attendees.
With the growing number of energy transition technologies and implementing environmental-focused investments, the transparency of GHG emissions and clean energy is increasingly important. GHG emissions and environmental impacts of each product and technology can impact overall investment into new projects, corporations, and the ability for future development. Recently, investment groups have now included ESG goals that are now influencing the entire value chain.
